This week has been very challenging and also very rewarding. It’s amazing how many miracles I have seen! We did a lot of tracting on our down time and there are so many lost people with lost beliefs here. Everyone I run into is already a member of some kind of religion. It’s annoying sometimes, but it also helps us a lot too.
We have 14 investigators right now--we have a lot!! But they all need so much work. Only 3 of them are progressing in the church but there is a lot of hope for the rest of them too!! We actually got an older lady on date to be baptized! She is old, but she wants Christ in her life. Her name is Liz Reeves. She is supposed to get baptized on the 26th of July. We found her when we were walking and talking in her neighborhood. We taught her two lessons and we put her on date for baptism. It was really neat! I just hope she makes it to church in the next couple of weeks!
We were walking and found this old lady named Yolla Maguire! She was sitting in a ditch in her yard and her lawn mower was also in the same ditch. She is older than old and she fell in her little ditch mowing her lawn! So we rushed over and asked her if she needed help. She yelled at us and told us to come and lift her out! She actually sounds a lot like my Aunt Beth, except Beth is a lot easier to understand! She probably weighs 80 pounds, has gray hair, maybe 5 teeth, and very old and southern! Haha She is so funny though! She was so mad at herself for falling in that ditch! She thanked us, and then we finished mowing her lawn and told her we would be back every week to do her yard work. She was pretty excited! I will try to get a picture of me and Yolla. ;)
One more of my investigators live in the hood. There is a lot of poverty here; it’s very sad. This family is black and they have had really rough back grounds. We brought them some of our food one day this last week because they had no money and no work and nothing to eat. It’s so sad and I almost started crying when the dad asked us if there was any way we could help his family be able to eat. Well, this family’s names are Eric and Trish. Their only form of transportation is an old 50cc moped. . .and it broke down the day we went to go teach them. Luckily from my experience with dirt bikes, I was able to help Eric fix it. We took it apart and cleaned out the air filter and the carburetor and got it running again. It was actually fun to work on it and I learned it all from my dirt bike!!
The town is really cool here. We do live in a town house in one of the nicer parts of Radford. There is a big university down the street from us and there are a lot of college kids here. There is also a lot of poverty, its really sad. I am allowed to fish; we can fish on p-days but we haven't yet. I think we might go with a member and an investigator on the 4th of July at the river that runs through the town.
Jesse, the guy I told you about last week, is still taking discussions. We actually got to teach his whole extended family two nights ago and they all loved it!! There is a lot of potential there!
God sure does use our talents that he has given us. I have used a lot of my talents while I have been here. My hobbies and my talents have gotten us through a lot of doors. I know that I’m supposed to be here and even though it’s harder than ever, I know this is where God needs me and he is shaping me into the man he wants me to become. I love this gospel and I love being a missionary! I am so grateful for my family and loved ones. I have been so lucky to grow up in such a good environment with such an amazing family. I love you all very very much and hope you have a great week!
Love, Elder Bingham
